Abstract
This paper presents an art therapy case study with a child that was experiencing atrophy, depression, and family adaptation issues due to the separation from parents and being raised by grandparents after the parents got divorced. The subject was a nine-year-old child who was raised by grandparents after the parents got divorced. Art therapy was provided in 50-minute sessions with a session per week for a total of 18 session between July¢¦November, 2022. The Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) 6-18 and the Kinetic Family Drawing (KFD) test were conducted before and after art therapy to examine the changes and outcomes of the child. The main findings were as follows: first, the participant decreased in atrophy and depression, took initiative, and became voluntary after art therapy; second, the participant expressed a desire for restoring relations with family members, which indicates that art therapy was helpful in the child's family adaptation issues. Based on these findings, the researchers demonstrated that art therapy is an effective intervention method to mitigate atrophy and depression in children whose parents get divorced and promote their adaptation to family in an altered structure. The art therapy case of this study will hopefully contribute to the development and application of cases in various programs.
